After graduation, Richard worked for several radio stations including Radio Lancashire, Radio Cleveland, Radio New Castle, etc. One of his regular guests in the program was Zogg Ziegler. Zogg was a car reviewer and Hammond would interview him over the phone. Zogg was the one who encouraged Hammond to enter into car and motoring reviews on Television.
