Early Life
Steve was born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia. His Father is Jesse Harvey, a coal miner, and mother-Eloise Vera. His first name was Broderick, named after the actor, Broderick Crawford. He had a severe stammering problem during his childhood which was later cured. The family moved to Cleveland Ohio, living on East 112th Street.
Steve graduated from Glenville High School in 1974 and attended Kent State University and West Virginia University. The street on which they lived, East 112th Street then renamed Steve Harvey Way in 2015.

Career
Steve worked as a boxer, an insurance salesman, an autoworker, a carpet cleaner, and a mailman in his early period. He had his comedy debut in 1985 at the Hilarities Comedy Club in Cleveland, Ohio. He was homeless for 3 years in the late 1980s and slept in his 1976 Ford when he did not have any performance that provided a hotel. He took baths at gas stations or swimming pool showers.
In 1990, Steve banged second Prize in the Second Annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search, which made him a host of the show Its Showtime at the Apollo. He became a successful standup comedian which led to a starring role in the show Me and my Boys in 1994. He was the lead star of the show The Steve Harvey Show which ran from 1996 to 2002.
He continued to do Standup- comedy. He along with Cedric the entertainer, DL Hughley, and Bernie Mac performed on the Kings of Comedy tour. The tour became so successful that it crossed $37 million within 2 years(1997 and 1998) which made it one of the highest-grossing comedy tours in history.
He appeared in the movies The Fighting Temptations, Love Doesn’t Cost a Thing in 2003, Johnson Family Vacation, You Got Served in 2004, and Racing Stripes in 2005. In 2006, he published a stand-up special, Steven Harvey: Don’t Trip…. He ain’t through with me yet.
